Z7COLTONZ7 Dominates Monaco Grand Prix

MONOCO - "It's always a great feeling coming back to Monaco, especially after our 1970 win here. We don't have the outright speed of some of the fast guys this weekend, but I think we'll be in the hunt if we can keep the car off of the Armco. That's always the hard part here, though."--1970 Monaco Grand Prix winner BCKracer71 said as the field of cars were being pushed onto the claustrophobic streets of Monte Carlo under mostly clear skies.

Monaco rookie and Catalyuna pole sitter Colton claimed the pole again on the streets of Monte Carlo with a qualifying time of 1:33.102; good for the track record.

The five drivers in the field making their Monaco debut know what this place is all about--"To finish first, you must first finish."-- said the polesitter and lap record holder.

Despite many pre race concerns amongst the drivers regarding the safety of the start, the 8 car field managed to get off the grid without incident. It was smooth sailing with each driver finding their rhythm
in the opening laps of the 28 lap affair until lap 5 when The1Plus2Rieck found the wall at Tabac (Turn 12) while running 7th. His day was done.

Lap 10 saw some wild three wide action in the tunnel between BCK, Blonde & Dakinca while the three were locked in a battle for 5th position. The nail biting would come to an end the following lap in Massenet (Turn 3) when the #22 Matra of Dakinca would get into the back the #1 FCA machine of Blonde under breaking. Both suffered heavy damage but were able to continue after long repairs; going on to finish 6th and 7th, 2 laps down.

While Colton continued to stump the field, a more calculated battle was taking shape just behind him between DeadArm, Throwaway and Manuel, with each suffering minor
damage due to the unforgiving walls. Each would try to stay on track with suspension damage, but it became too great to handle and they would find themselves making a quick pit stop one by one.

When the flag fell, Colton would claim victory--a redemption of sorts for an opportunity lost two weeks ago in Spain.

The F1 drivers will now rest their hands and take a week off before making their debut at the 4 km Circuit Zolder for the Belgian Grand Prix on February 4th.
